Gregory Leonard is an Senior Research specialist in the University of Arizona's Department of Planetary Sciences. With the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey he scans the night skies for near-Earth asteroids and comets. His research also includes Mars and Mercury geologic studies, and monitoring alpine glaciers and mountain hazards. He has explored glaciers in North and South America, Mongolia, Nepal, and India. Barbara Leonard - M.SC, CCC-SLP (Co-Founder, High Asia for Aphasia)
Barbara Leonard is a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist in Tucson, Arizona. She graduated from the University of Arizona under the guidance of her mentor / clinical supervisor Janet Hawley. The aphasia groups supervised by Janet Hawley along with clinical research conducted by Paige Beeson influenced Barbara's interest in assisting patients with aphasia. Prior to her speech pathology career she worked on community development projects in Mongolia, and was an international teacher in Mongolia, Lebanon, and Indonesia. Fabiane (Fabi) Hirsch Kruse - PhD, CCC-SLP (Co-Founder, Friends of Aphasia)
Dr. Fabiane (Fabi) Hirsch Kruse is a Speech-Language Pathologist who has worked for over 30 years helping people recover their speech, language, and communication skills after strokes and other injuries to the brain. She received her clinical master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia and her doctorate from the University of Arizona. In 2018, she and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords co-founded Friends of Aphasia, a Tucson-based nonprofit organization aimed at improving both the quality of communication and quality of life of individuals living with aphasia, a communication disorder that robs people of their ability to speak, understand, read and/or write. A climber herself, Fabi is thrilled about this opportunity for Friends of Aphasia to partner with Greg and Barbara on this exciting project.

Janet Hawley - Clinical Sc.D, CCC-SLP (aphasia Program leader, University of arizona)
Janet L Hawley is a clinical professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona. She has worked with patients with aphasia and aphasia groups since the early 1980’s and currently supervises graduate students who facilitate groups in the Clinic for Adult Communication Disorders at The University of Arizona. She is excited about Greg’s climb and appreciative of his efforts to increase awareness of aphasia and his support of aphasia treatment services.
