Mt satopanth (23,212 ft)
Location
Mt Satopanth lies in the Garwal Himalaya in the northeast Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is part of the Gangotri group of glaciated peaks with its icy summit perched in thin air at 7075m (23,212 ft).
The name Satopanth is derived from Sanskrit, meaning 'True Path'. Access to Satopanth goes through the 'Gomukh' (Mouth of the Cow) at the terminus of Gangotri Glacier. The Gomukh is a primary source of the Ganges River, and is among the holiest destinations for Hindu pilgrims. Larger map here. |
the climb
This expedition style climb features a technical rock band at 20,000 feet between camps 1 and 2. Above camp 2 is the daunting knife-edged ridge at 21,500 feet separating camp 2 and camp 3 and the final steep icy head-wall to the summit. This expedition will take place in September 2023.
